A plan to install about 10 to 15 Closed-Circuit Television Cameras (CCTV's) to monitor the traffic situation in major streets of Bacolod City was announced by Bacolod Mayor Monico Puentevella Thursday.
Puentevella said he wants a monitoring system that will help the Traffic Management Unit and Bacolod City Traffic Authority determine which areas are congested during peak hours and help them find alternative routes.
This is in line with their masterplan to improve the traffic situation in the city, he said.
He also said he met with interested parties because he plans to have the CCTV project undergo bidding, maybe next month.
Among the major streets in Bacolod City that will be installed with CCTV's are Burgos Street, Circumferential Road, Libertad-Araneta streets, along La Salle Avenue, and Araneta Street, in front of City Hall, he said.
Puentevella said they will also procure new traffic lights or repair existing ones to ease the traffic situation in Bacolod.
Meanwhile, Councilor Claudio Puentevella proposed an ordinance designating Pay Parking Zones in the city in accordance to his previous Pay and Park proposal last year, a press release from City Hall said.
The ordinance, which is up for approval on second reading, designates San Juan, Rizal, Gonzaga and Gatuslao streets as Pay Parking Zones.
Parked vehicles in those areas will be charged P5 for the first two hours and an additional P2 for every exceeding hour, and that the total fee of each vehicle will not exceed P35 a day, the release said.
Should the ordinance be approved by the Sangguniang Panlunghsod, the BTAO, together with the City Mayor's Office will conduct an extensive study to identify and designate other Pay Parking Zones within the next three months of its affectivity, the press release added.*CGS
