Vladi’s wife laid to rest

The wife of businessman Vladimir Gonzalez was laid to rest at the family-owned Santuario de Bacolod in Brgy. Alijis Saturday after a 3:30 p.m. funeral service attended by their children, relatives and friends.

Marian Angeli “Geli” Gonzalez, 47, succumbed to lung cancer on February 2.

She is survived by their children Angela Marideen, Jadd Angelo, Natascia Maria, Gabriel Vladimir and Joshua Antonio.

Gonzalez thanked those who attended the interment and those who have been with them in the 90-day journey with Geli while she was battling lung cancer.

He said he has been bargaining with doctors in China to bring the type of technology, that his wife had undergone, to Bacolod because he still believes it could help a lot of people who have been hit by the dreaded disease.

Gonzalez said he is willing to put up the structure because he believes this will be very good medical tourism for Bacolod.*CGS

IN MANAPLA
Medical mission helps 200

A medical mission and relief operation, held by the Negros Occidental Rainbow Foundation Inc., in partnership with GMA Bacolod, benefited about 200 residents of Barangay San Pablo, Manapla town, Negros Occidental, Saturday, a press release from organizers said.

Medicines were also provided to the residents, and the children were lectured on personal hygiene and proper garbage disposal, while the mothers were urged to maintain cleanliness and sanitation in and outside their homes, and not allow their children to eat junk foods, the press release also said.

Manapla Mayor Lourdes Escalante and her husband, former mayor Manolet Escalante, thanked the groups for the medical and relief assistance, especially since San Pablo, one of the biggest barangays of the town, was hit by super-typhoon “Yolanda”.

The activity was organized by Foundation president Socorro Monfort and her group, and GMA Bacolod station manager Cristina Magbojos, with the participation of the Negros Press Club. The foundation was formed by the late Julie Benedicto, wife of former Philippine Ambassador Roberto Benedicto, the press release added.*

Singing contest launched

The “Boses Tinig Pinoy” singing competition was held by the Radio Philippines Network 9 at the Robinsons Place-Bacolod Saturday, RPN president and chief executive officer Roberto Rivera said.

It is a nationwide search for talents from the 12 regions in the country, where contestants, aged 15 years old and above, will perform “acapella”, or without instrumental accompaniment, in duet and trio, he said at a press conference in Bacolod City.

Rivera said the contest kicked off in Baguio June 15, 2013, has been launched in Batac, Ilocos Norte; Cagayan de Oro, and General Santos, and will be held in other areas where RPN radio stations operate.

This is a once-in-a-lifetime shot of fame and fortune for the grand winner, who will have a chance of becoming a recording artist, he added.

RPN Bacolod station manager Buddy Ferrer said the network decided to go to the provinces and cities to discover upcoming singers, so they do not have to spend much time and money to go to Manila and join the contest.

Winners who performed in trio and duet will receive P1,000 each, while non-winners will get P500 each. They will also have the chance of availing a full scholarship in voice and stage performance with the Center for Pop Music Philippines, he added.

The leg winners will compete in the semi-finals in Cagayan de Oro on February 22 at no expense on their part, he said.

The grand finals will be held March 18 in Manila, with P1 million in prizes at stake, and a recording and talent management contract with RPN 9 Solar Television Network for the winner, Ferrer added.

Road show emcee John Nite said this is just the beginning as they plan to discover more talents in the provinces. Present at the launching were road show emcees Aileen Papin, John Nite and Constantine Rivera.*CGS
