Aklan, Iloilo rule high school arnis,  
Negros tankers haul 24 gold medals

Aklan won its first team gold medal in secondary boys’ arnis while Iloilo managed to keep the title in the girls’ department as competition in the 2014 Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association enters its third day today in San Jose, Antique yesterday.

Iloilo also won the championship game against Negros in sepak takraw junior, 2-0.

After trailing Iloilo and Negros Occidental in the team single weapon and team double weapon of the Creative/Likha Anyo, the Aklanon boys flexed their muscles in the full contact /labanan with gold medals in the bantamweight, featherweight, and halflight weight categories to overtake Negros and Iloilo in the points’ summary.

ESD, Condura take lead in
Open Trio bowling tilt

ESD Solid Strikers and Condura ASSFBI I grabbed the lead in the opening salvo of the Top’s 2014 Open Trio Bowling Tournament at the New Top’s Millennium Plaza Alley in Bacolod City.

The Solid Strikers struck 356 and 364 points in the firsttwo games to lead the 18 teams in the men’s division with a total score of 720 points, while Condura topped the women’s category with 645.

Second and third spots went to Davies I and Mulo Car Aircon Services with 698 and 679 points, respectively.

NOVA tourney opens Feb 22

The 2014 Age-Group Volleyball Championship, jointly organized by the University of St. La Salle, the Negros Occidental Cultural and Sports Foundation, and the Negros Occidental Volleyball Association will open on February 22 at the USLS College Covered Court.

NOVA president Roger Banzuela said the competition will be in four categories for boys and girls in 10, 12, 14 and 16 year-old brackets.

The age-group volleyball sports development program aims to prepare the players for future tournaments representing their different schools and local government units.
