The Sentrong Samahan ng Tsuper at Operators-Negros reiterated its call yesterday for the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board Region 6 to implement the provisional 50-centavo fare increase they sought last year, in view of a pending diesel price increase this week.

Reports said that there may be an increase in diesel price of about 25 centavos per liter this week, but no movements on the cost of gasoline.

Jesse Ortega, SSTONE secretary general, said it is high time the LTFRB in Region 6 approve their petition.

He warned that if the LTFRB continues to ignore them, SSTONE and a transport group from Iloilo will hold a regionwide protest.

SSTONE filed the petition for a provisional fare increase in July 2013 but it was not acted upon by the LTFRB as the group failed to submit an additional document that reflects the effects on the drivers of the non-increase of fare and how much the hike in the cost of the spare parts is, among others things.

Ortega, however, said they refused to submit another document, arguing that the petition they had submitted earlier is already enough basis for the approval or disapproval of the provisional fare hike.*APN
