Gaston leads Luisita to
PAL Seniors victory
Negrense Francis Gaston fired 51 points to lead Luisita to victory and reclaim the championship in the 28th Philippine Airlines Seniors Interclub golf team championship at the Negros Occidental Golf and Country Club’s Marapara course in Bacolod City yesterday.
Despite his outstanding performance, Gaston, a former national amateur champion, credited Luisita’s victory to teammate Bong Sison, who match the 50 points output of flightmate Rolly Viray of Canlubang.
“Bong did well against Viray. I think that was the key,” said Gaston.
| PBA PHILIPPINE CUP MANILA – Rain or Shine leaned on Jeff Chan in the final half to beat San Mig Coffee, 81-74, to stay alive in the PBA Philippine Cup championship series at the Araneta Coliseum last night. Chan found his shooting touch in the final half, scoring 23 of his game-high 24 points as the Elasto Painters extended the series to Game Six on Wednesday. Paul Lee and Gabe Norwood contributed important baskets in the final three minutes for Rain or Shine. |
| 14 teams to see action Fourteen teams are expected to see action when the Basketball Coaches Association of Negros 40 Up and 50 Up Tournament opens on March 1 at the West Negros University gym, a press release from BCAN said. Confirmed teams for the 40 Up division are Plus AC of Judge Anastacio Rufon, Basketball Unified Sports Group, Homesite Basketball Organization of Tony Belonio and Buddy Ferrer, Alijis Basketball Association of Bobby Regalado, Iloilo Pros. Teams for the 50 Up will be named after the February 26 meeting of team representatives at Apollo, Shopping Center, the press release said. |
