The re-opening of the Vendors Plaza market that has been a “white-elephant” for several years now, is being eyed by Bacolod Mayor Monico Puentevella.
Puentevella said the building constructed along with the jeepney terminal in Brgy. 12 near the SM City mall during the time of then Mayor Luzviminda Joy Valdez, is no longer being utilized.
He also bared plans to expand the Bacolod Central, Libertad and Burgos public markets and the rehabilitation of barangay markets.
Yesterday, Puentevella met with the street vendors at the Bacolod Arts Youth and Sports Center to discuss his plan to get them out of the street and transferring them to the three markets of the city.
A Task Force composed by Puentevella, and former Barangay Villamonte Captain, and now Public Affairs and Assistance Division, in-charge, Drebe Las Piñas, City Administrator Rolando Villamor, Councilor Sonya Verdeflor, head of the committee on markets, Bacolod City Police chief, Senior Supt. Edgardo Ordaniel, Bantay Banwa president Dot Soliven and Association of Barangay Captains president Noli Villarosa was formed on December 30 to clear the city's streets of vendors.
The task force also includes personnel from the City Engineers Office, City Health Office, Bacolod Traffic Authority Office and the Bureau of Fire Protection.
Puentevella said they will also adopt new policies on vendors who are not from Bacolod City.* APN
