| DAR employees give gifts
Department of Agrarian Reform employees held a gift-giving activity recently for about 400 agrarian reform beneficiaries in Barangay Magsaysay, Cadiz City in Negros Occidental, instead of holding their office Christmas party, its press release said.
The agency also collected voluntary contributions from the employees to augment the gift packs distributed to the ARBs affected by super-typhoon “Yolanda” that hit the city and other parts of northern Negros Occidental Nov. 8, the press release said.
Employees traveled around 70 kilometers from Bacolod, and seven kilometers of rough terrain from the national highway to reach the agrarian reform community. Barangay Magsaysay has 555 hectares covered by DAR and 398 ARBs with more than 6,000 in population, the press release also said.
Barangay Captain Archie Lamis said 67 houses were destroyed by the typhoon, and 316 damaged.
DAR assistant regional director for operations, Florentino Siladan said the gift-giving was in the spirit of the Yuletide season.
The Social Action Center of the Diocese of Bacolod sent through DAR various food items and 10 sacks of used clothing, the press release added.*

Silay choir wins tilt
The Catholic Charismatic Renewal Movement Choir of Silay City in Negros Occidental was champion in the “Christmas Showdown: Joyous Voices Chorale Fest” held by the Radyo Veritas Bacolod 1143 Khz at Robinsons Place Bacolod fountain area recently, a press release from the city said.
The choir, wearing Spanish-era costumes, sang “Simbang Gabi” composed by Lucio San Pedro, with interpretative dance moves.
CCRM music ministry adviser Leonard Guinabo said he is thankful for winning the competition, that was participated in by adult church choirs of parishes in the Diocese of Bacolod, the press release added.*
