Two injured in shooting

Two friends were shot and injured by still unidentified suspects in Purok Roadside, Brgy. Tangub in Bacolod City, at about 1:10 a.m. Wednesday.

The victims were identified as Alfredo Monterde, 20, and Steven Gabtalao, 19, both of the purok, by Insp. Richard Fajarito, Station 8 deputy chief.

Monterde sustained multiple gunshot wounds in his right arm and a bullet grazed his stomach, and Gantalao was hit in his upper lip. They were brought to the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital, Fajarito said.

Investigation showed that, after a drinking spree with their relatives on New Year's eve, Monterde and Gantalao decided to visit a friend, whose name was not disclosed, in another purok of the barangay.

They were walking at a grassy and dimly-lit area when they felt something painful hit them, and when they came to a lighted place, they discovered several gunshot wounds on their bodies, Fajarito said.

The police said Monterde and Gantalao were shot with an improvised gun, or sulpak, and their wounds were not caused by stray bullets. Fajarito said the two have no enemies, and might have been just victims of “tripping”.

The policemen are conducting an investigation since no witness had surfaced as of press time.*SGG
