Contractors urged to renew licenses

The Philippine Contractors Accreditation Board will strictly enforce the schedule of renewal of licenses among contractors this year, the Department of Trade and Industry said n a press release yesterday.

The implementation is provided under Republic Act No. 4566 or the Contractor’s License Law which states that all construction contractors’ licenses issued by the PCAB simultaneously expire every 30th of June each year, the DTI said.

It was observed by the agency that for years, lukewarm compliance was the response of these contractors on applications for renewal, the press release said.

The delayed applications, compounded by big volume of licensed contractors, whose qualifications need to be individually evaluated and determined, demands much administrative costs and increased personnel workload, it also said.

A staggered renewal filing schedule based on license number endings will be implemented, it said.

For license numbers ending 0 and 1 (February), 2 and 3 (March), 4 and 5 (April), 6 and 7 (May), 8, 9, and licenses approved from January to June (June), the press release said.

Contractors need to follow strictly the filing schedule or they will be need to pay P5,000 as additional processing fee for non-compliance.

Concerned parties may call local DTI at telephone numbers 433-0250, 704-2203 or 434-7920 for more information, the press release added.*
