Cebu homicide suspect
arrested in Sagay: police

A security guard wanted for multiple homicide in Cebu City allegedly committed midnight of Dec. 31, was arrested Sunday in Brgy. Tadlog, Sagay City, Negros Occidental.

Chief Inspector Edel Jose Manzano, Sagay police chief, yesterday identified the suspect as Berly Tudtud, who was apprehended at the house of his relatives in the barangay. The arrest yielded a fragmentation grenade and an undetermined amount of cash.

Tudtud, who allegedly robbed the First Agro-Industrial Rural Bank in Daan Bantayan in Cebu midnight of Dec. 31, is also tagged as suspect in the killing of bank accounting clerk Jenelyn Megabon, security guard Dean Deserto, and Cecilia Torres, Deserto’s live-in partner.

All the victims succumbed to gunshot wounds in their heads.

The suspect was reported to have robbed the bank of P80,000.

Manzano said Tudtud was arrested through a joint operation of the Cebu Police Provincial Office and the Sagay City Police Station.

Tudtud reportedly harbored a grudge against Megabon for reporting to the bank his unauthorized long distance phone calls.*GPB

House strafed

A residence at 193-K, Luzuriaga Street in Brgy. 30, Bacolod City, was strafed at about 11:45 p.m. Sunday.

Station 6 commander, Chief Insp. Placido Gentoleo, yesterday said the suspect used a .45 caliber firearm to fire three times at the house of Cherry Ann Llamas, 31.

Three empty shells were recovered near the house, and the slug of a .45 caliber was found inside it, police records show.

Gentoleo said the family already has the identity of the suspect, but the police are still waiting for witnesses to file an affidavit before they can arrest and charge them.

Harassment to the family of Llamas is being eyed by the police as motive for the incident, Gentoleo said.

He also said serious grave threat with the use of firearm is the possible charge to be filed against the suspect.*SGG

BCPO to intensify
checkpoints, patrols

Police checkpoints and mobile patrols will be intensified in Brgy. Sum-ag, Bacolod City, after several complaints that thieves on vehicles are victimizing residents there.

An electronic mail from a concerned citizen was received by the DAILY STAR Saturday, and said that several houses near the Holy Family High School in San Sebastian Village in the barangay were ransacked and looted by burglars.

Another resident said that, almost every night, most house owners could not sleep because of dangerous persons breaking into houses and stealing items.

Senior Supt. Edgardo Ordaniel, acting BCPO director, said he will call the attention of Station 9 chief, Senior Insp. Jerick Filosofo, on the matter since he did not see any report of theft and robbery cases that happened in the barangay and recorded in the police journal.

He urged the public to let the police know of crimes happening in their areas so they can be acted on, even if some people are no longer interested in reporting theft incidents because the things stolen from them were not that valuable.

Crime incidents reported late or not at all contribute to the difficulty of the police in solving criminality, and ensuring peace and order in the locality, Ordaniel said.

Meanwhile, two unidentified armed men handcuffed the guard of the Isuzu Automart in Brgy. Mandalagan, Bacolod, and burglarized the store, at about 2 a.m. Friday.

Guard Roy Parian told the police he fell asleep and was awakened by two men, who pointed a gun and a bladed weapon at him, then tied his hands and feet with an electric wire.

The suspects then carted away a laptop computer worth P10,000, a .38 caliber revolver with chamber bullets, the service firearm of Parian valued at P20,000, his Nokia cellular phone worth P3,000 and P600 in cash, police records show.

Investigation showed that the suspects broke the glass door of the General Manager’s Office to gain entry.
