Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. yesterday said he has informed the office of rehabilitation czar Panfilo Lacson that super typhoon “Yolanda” had caused P1.2 billion in damages to Negros Occidental.
Marañon resubmitted the report on the damage after a representative of Lacson informed him that they had not receive any.
Provincial Administrator Enrique Pinongan said the provincial government had submitted its damage report to the National Economic and Development Authority earlier, and, that, perhaps, it had not been forwarded to the office of Lacson.
Lacson is the presidential assistant for rehabilitation and recovery, tasked with seeing to the rehabilitation of areas hit by “Yolanda”.
The Capitol report sent to Lacson said 11,871 houses were destroyed and 48,144 were damaged by the typhoon.
It also said the estimated cost of damage to sugarcane was P688 million, rice – P80.4 million, corn – P39 million, fruits and vegetables – P95 million, fishery – P45.8 million, livestock – P9.1 million and poultry – P27.1 million.
The report placed damage to roads and bridges at P12.6 million, schools – P153.9 million, hospitals – P3.9 million, animal production facilities – P15.1 million, irrigation – P23.5 million, and mangroves P11.2 million.
Meanwhile, on questions raised over the delay in housing assistance promised by Vice President Jejomar Binay during his visit to Negros Occidental, the governor said he was not in the position to answer that.
The vice president did not set a time frame on when the assistance would come, he added.*CPG
