Security preparations for the scheduled plebiscite for the ratification of Barangay Paglaum, Bacolod City are in place, Bacolod City Police Director Senior Supt. Edgardo Ordaniel said yesterday.
Ordaniel said the Comelec Bacolod Field Office made the request for it during the meeting it conducted in Mansilingan Saturday. He said they will deploy a maximum number of personnel in Mansilingan Saturday to ensure the peaceful conduct of the plebiscite.
Bacolod Election Officer Mavil Majarucon-Sia said three polling centers composed of 50 clustered precincts, will function during the plebiscite.
The voting will be from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. and the counting of votes will be held at the precinct level. The Board of Canvassers will convene at 4 p.m. to start the canvassing at the Sannguniang Panlungsod session hall in Bacolod City, she said.
Majarucon said COMELEC personnel from Manila will be in Bacolod tomorrow to supervise the local COMELEC during the plebiscite.
The BOC is composed of Majarucon-Sia, Fiscal Armando Abanado and Bacolod Schools Division Superintendent Gemma Ledesma.
Majarucon-Sia said Mansilingan has about 17,581 registered voters and she believes that the plebiscite will end at about 10 a.m. considering that there are only 50 clustered precincts.
They conducted a consultation Saturday in Mansilinagn to provide a venue for the people to be enlightened about the purpose of the plebiscite and to give a chance to the proponents and oppositors to air their sides, she said.
Issues concerning the boundaries, Internal Revenue Allotment, and scholarships, among others, were discussed during the consultation.
Meanwhile, Ordaniel said there have been no recorded apprehensions of gun ban violators since the start of the banning period on Dec. 11 that will end on January 15.*CGS back
