Prominent person’s son
linked  to ‘killers’ of cop
BY GILBERT BAYORAN

Police probers are looking into reports that a son of a prominent person in central Negros had been seen in the company of suspects arrested for the killing of SPO2 Rex de los Reyes, before the shooting incident on Sunday, in Hinigaran, Negros Occidental.

The arrest of the five suspects, who were nabbed when they were caught in a traffic snarl by the police in La Castellana, yielded several high-powered firearms and explosives, police records show.

Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. said yesterday that the police should dig deeper in their investigation of the shooting incident. “I think that there is more than the initial story,” Marañon said.moremoremore

OBO told: Probe
treasure hunting

The City Legal Office has asked the Office of the Building Official to look into the treasure hunting activity that has reportedly been ongoing behind the Central Negros Electric Cooperative compound in Mabini Street, Bacolod City.

Acting OBO head Isidro Sun Jr. yesterday said he received a letter from City Legal Officer Sarah Villamor asking his office to inspect the alleged gold digging activity.

But when he went to the area noontime Monday, he said he was prevented by a guard in civilian clothes from entering the premises despite introducing himself as an OBO official.moremoremore

COA wants assets,
sheep clarification

BY CARLA GOMEZ

Despite several adjustments made in its accounts in 2012, the province of Negros Occidental was still unable to fully reconcile, identify, and properly classify balances of asset accounts totaling P1,495,603,639.22, that made the validity of 24.74 percent of the total assets recorded in its book of accounts doubtful.

This was among the findings of the Commission on Audit in its 2012 annual audit report of Negros Occidental as posted on its website on January 3.

“We recommend that the provincial accountant should continue to effect reconciliation of the balances of the asset accounts against relevant records, and to record the appropriate adjustments to reflect the correct balances,” the COA said.moremoremore
