DAR completes water system

The Department of Agrarian Reform in Negros Occidental completed the construction of the facilities for its Community-Managed Potable Water Supply, Sanitation and Hygiene project yesterday in Brgy. Baga-as, Hinigaran town.

The facilities that included two iron removal filters, two bio-digesters, a rain water collector and two bio-sand filters were turned over to the Baga-as Agrarian Reform Association members yesterday.

Ronald Gareza, DAR-South chief agrarian reform program officer, congratulated the BARA members and those who undertook the project and said he hopes this will be replicated in other areas.

An additional 11 biodigesters will also be built soon in Brgy. Baga-as this year

DAR allotted P157,000 for this project, P50,000 of which was used for the purchase of sanitation facilities to be installed in existing water sources.

DAR is also set to conduct capability building training for the recipients' of the program who are mostly ARBs and trained para-engineers to sustain these projects.

Gareza said they are happy with the success of CPWASH despite the fact that the budget for it was only P50,000.

DAR is also expected to launch a similar project in Sitio Tabidiao, Brgy. Mailum, Bago City this year, which is expected to benefit 38 members of the Friends of the Highlands Producers Cooperative.

CPWASH is a low-cost technology that guarantees continuous flow of clean water in rural communities.

The turnover of the facilities was attended by Ma. Soledad Peralta and Nenita Dela Cruz of the Bureau of Agrarian Reform Beneficial Department from Manila   *APN
