The price of eggs and dressed chicken has already been stabilized, especially in areas in Negros Occidental that were badly hit by typhoon Yolanda, Provincial Veterinarian Renante Decena, said yesterday.
Decena said, that, as of yesterday, the price of eggs went down to P5.50 to P7, from its previous price of P9 to P10 for every piece, depending on the size.
Decena said much of the eggs in the markets of Negros Occidental still come from backyard raisers. There is no more egg supply deficit in Negros Occidental even if the poultry industry in Bantayan Island, where most of the supply of eggs from the province comes from, had experienced a downfall, he said.
Aside from eggs, the prices of dressed chicken also went down by at least P10 from its previous price, that ranged from P150- P160 for every kilo, Decena added.
Decena attributed the reduction of prices of these goods to the fact their demand has lowered although they are expecting it to increase once again with the BacoLaodiat Festival nearing.
Meanwhile, the provincial government is boosting its yogurt-making project and is now gearing for 1,500 cups of yogurt per day.
Decena and yogurt production is being given importance because it is a product of the improved dairy industry of the province.*Mara Kathleen Dela Minez
