PDEA admits limitations in
anti-drugs campaign

The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency in Negros Oriental yesterday said lack of manpower and budget is limiting its anti-illegal drugs operations.
In a briefing at the Provincial Peace and Order Council meeting, PDEA head Ivy Claire Oledan, in her report read by agent Hector Avenido, said the lack of manpower and financial restrictions are major hindrances in the campaign against prohibited drugs.
This was backed by the low accomplishment of the provincial PDEA, from October to December last year, compared to those of other law enforcement agencies, like the Philippine National Police.
| 2 ‘pushers' nabbed, Two suspected drug pushers were arrested in a buy-bust operation in Sitio Looc, Barangay Tampocon I in Ayungon town, Negros Oriental, Monday, and suspected shabu, two firearms, and a car were among those seized. Police identified those arrested as Virgil Gonzales and Rex Torres, who both work for a certain Jowett Nusan, who fled during the buy-bust operation. Investigation showed that Gonzales and Torres sold a large volume of suspected shabu, worth about P25,000, to a poseur-buyer in the compound where the house of Nusan is located.. |
| Groups get Members of two small business associations in Dumaguete received P3,000, each for a total of P123,000, in cash assistance from Mayor Manuel Sagarbarria at his office at City Hall yesterday. Twenty-one members of the Bajumpandan CORE Shelter SEA-Kaunlaran Association of Barangay Bajumpandan, and 20 from the Bayanihanon Association of Barangay Banilad received the money as part of the city's efforts to help small entrepreneurs improve their living conditions. The beneficiaries thanked the city government for the assistance, that they said, will help them a lot in their small businesses. |
