GMA stars to join Sinulog

GMA Network Kapuso stars Juancho Trivino, Paolo Contis, Janine Gutierrez and Elmo Magalona will join the 38 th Sinulog de Kabankalan Festival of Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental, 7 p.m. on Friday at the Kabankalan Football Field, a press release from the station said.

The festival, on the theme “After the Tempest: Offering of Adoration and Thanksgiving to the Señor Santo Niño”, is slated January 10-19 with various activities lined up, like sports competitions, live band performances, acrobatic show, fireworks competition, motorcade and fluvial procession of Santo Niño, Sinulog mardi gras, Negros Sinulog Queen coronation night, 7 p.m. Friday, and grand tribal parade and competition, 1 p.m. Sunday.

The Kapuso Fiesta of GMA 13 and 30 Western Visayas will feature fun games, prizes and performances from Kabankalan dancers, local talents and comedians Aya and Silver, the press release also said.

Bacolod commemorating
autism consciousness month

The Autism Consciousness Month is being celebrated until January 31 by the Bacolod City SPED Center, in coordination with the Department of Education, Department of Social Services and Development, City Health Office, and the Rotary Club of Bacolod-East, a press release from the office of Councilor Sonya Verdeflor said.

Activities lined up are a mass at the Bacolod San Sebastian Cathedral, and “Angels Walk/Parade” on January 13; public and parent awareness about autism at the social hall of DepEd, Jan. 14; pizza-making activity and visit to the Negros Forest and Ecological Park today;

Mini special Olympics for children with autism tomorrow; family day at La Salle Granada Eco Park, Jan. 17; on-the-spot poster-making contest at the MassKara Hall 3, Bacolod Government Center, Jan. 18; and medical check-up for children with autism and special needs at the BAYS Center, 9 a.m. on Jan. 25, the press release said.

The celebration is in line with City Ordinance 651, or “An Ordinance Establishing An Institutionalized Autism Awareness and Support Advocacy Program for Children with Autism and Special Needs in Bacolod”, authored by Verdeflor and approved by the Sangguniang Panlungsod on June 26, 2013, the press release also said.

The program for children with autism and special needs has been institutionalized in Bacolod to motivate the full participation and involvement of families of these children in their rehabilitation activities to promote measures to discover and maximize the development of their skills and potentials to prepare them to become useful and productive adults, the press release added.*
