Paint shop robbed
of P23,000, goods
Three unidentified minors ransacked a paint shop in the Esteban building at Rizal Street in Brgy. 21, Bacolod City, and stole about P23,000 in cash yesterday.
Norman Cabasis, 21, of La Castellana town in Negros Occidental, an employee of the BNS Paint Paradise, said he discovered the robbery when he opened the store at about 7:30 a.m., Police Officer 2 Johnny dela Peña, duty investigator, said.
Minors are suspected of burglarizing the shop between 12 a.m. to 6 a.m., because the opening the suspects had used to gain entry was small, dela Peña added.
Investigation showed that the suspects destroyed the padlock and damaged the folding steel door, and may have taken the chance to burglarize the store because only a few people were passing the area since it was raining, he said.
Owner Ma. Salvacion Canada, 50, of Canlaon City in Negros Oriental, told the police that sales proceeds Monday of P23,000, that was in her drawer, was gone, and other stolen items are to be accounted for yet.
The store has a closed-circuit television camera but it has not been functional since last week.
De la Peña said they have ruled out an inside job, for lack of basis.
Senior Supt. Edgardo Ordaniel, acting police director, directed his chiefs of police to divide their station's duty scheme, and deploy more policemen on the streets and near business establishments at nighttime, when robbery and hold-up cases arise.
He also urged the installation of CCTVs in every business establishment in Bacolod.*SGG
