Don't go out to sea,
fishermen told
BY SHIELA GELERA

The Philippine Coast Guard-Bacolod yesterday again warned owners of fishing boats and other small seacrafts n ot to venture out to sea as a Northeast Monsoon surge and a Low Pressure Area may cause rough to very rough sea conditions.

Lt. Commander Glen Daraug, PCG-Bacolod head, said that although the monsoon and LPA may not develop, it is better to take precautions than to be in danger.

The warning came after a 14-year-old boy died at sea, while his friend survived when their boat capsized after being hit by waves near the Bacolod Real Estate Development Corporation, at noon Sunday.

The body of Joseph Sumiguin, “alias Nene”, of Purok Balinday in Brgy. 2, Bacolod, went missing and was found only at about 1 p.m. Monday. It was brought to the Alisbo Funeral Parlor at Lacson Street in the city, police records show.

Rudy Fernandez, 21, also of Purok Balinday in Brgy. 2, who survived by swimming to the shoreline of BREDCO, said Sumiguin jumped off the vessel in fear when water started entering it.

Fernandez said he never expected big waves to hit their boat since it was not raining and the wind was not very strong when they venturte out to sea.

Meanwhile, the coast guard did not cancel any trips of sea vessels from Bacolod to Iloilo, Daraug said.

He said only those trips from San Carlos to Toledo in Cebu City and Bantayan to Cadiz City in Negros Occidental were cancelled yesterday afternoon because of rough seas.*SGG
