Army reservist killed

An Indian national and his driver were gunned down near a store in Purok Active, Brgy. Mandalagan in Bacolod City, at about 11 a.m. yesterday.

Alden Teves, 30, of Talisay City in Negros Occidental, died on the spot while the Indian national, identified as Kulwinder Singh, 31, of Brgy. Villamonte in Bacolod was rushed to the Our Lady of Mercy Specialty Hospital but was declared dead at about 11:22 a.m., Senior Insp. Edgar Gulmatico, Station 3 chief, said.

Investigation showed that the backrider on a blue Honda motorcycle, shot Teves, who was sitting on a chair.moremoremore

life for drugs

A Bacolod trisikad driver found guilty of selling marijuana worth P300 to a policeman was sentenced to life imprisonment and fined P500,000 yesterday.

Regional Trial Court Branch 52 Judge Raymond Joseph Javier found Roy Infante Garganera guilty beyond reasonable doubt of violation of Section 5, Article II of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

The jail warden of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology male dormitory in Barangay Taculing, Bacolod, was also ordered to immediately transfer Garganera to the New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa City for the service of his sentence.moremoremore

Guv: Lirazan has to improve

Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. yesterday said the performance of Senior Supt. Milko Lirazan, acting Negros Occidental police director, has to improve.

The governor said that on a scale of 1 to 10, he would give Lirazan a 7.5, that is a passing score for his performance, so far.

The police should put more effort into the campaign against illegal gambling and drugs in Negros Occidental, he said.

The governor also called on the mayors of Negros Occidental to help stop illegal gambling which, he said, only worsens the plight of the poor..moremoremore
