The Makabayan partylist group is seeking a Temporary Restraining Order from the Supreme Court against the increase in Social Security System premiums from 10.4 percent to 11 percent, which took effect this month.
Makabayan Regional Coordinator Alejandro Deoma said that once the SC issues the TRO they will file a petition for permanent injunction so the increase will no longer be implemented.
Deoma said multi-sectoral organizations under Makabayan is set to hold a protest in front of the SSS compound today to urge the agency to collect the remittances that some employers failed to remit.


15 food entrepreneurs
join food tech program
Fifteen food entrepreneurs joined the 1st Food Technology Program of the ANP-Foundation For Enterprise Development in partnership with AFOS Foundation and the Negrense Food Consultancy Group.
The Food Technology Program runs for about four months covering a 3-day lecture and hands-on training, the ANP said in a press release.
It includes five days training on food safety and five days training on basic food technology handled by the Negrense Food Consultancy Group before participants proceed to the 18-day specialized food courses on bakery at the Bacolod Academy for Culinary Arts.


P440,691 in
insurance released
The Office of the Provincial Agriculturist released P440,691 in crop insurance to 134 rice farmers in San Carlos City, Negros Occidental, Monday, Dennis Panuelo, agricultural technologist, said yesterday.
The aid was released through the Negros First Universal Crop Insurance Program and the Weather Adverse Rice Area, Panuelo said.
NFUCIP, that was launched in August in 2010 by Secretary Proceso Alcala, has already covered damage to crops in previous months.
