Negrense police officers who arrested the five suspects linked to the fatal shooting of SPO2 Rex de los Reyes in Hinigaran town, Negros Occidental, were conferred with the Medalya ng Kagalingan (proficiency medals) by the Police Regional Office 6 at Camp Martin Delgado in Iloilo City Monday.
The medals were awarded to Chief Inspector Lino Dalisay, Hinigaran police chief, and Senior Insp. Gideon Montalbo and Senior Police Officer 4 Vivencio Pacigado, both assigned at the 5th Maneuver Platoon, Supt. Roderick Augustus Alba, acting regional Police Community Relations division chief, said.
The five suspects earlier identified as Michael Jancilan, Roger Garilba, Vicente Poleros, Eduardo Montano and Openiano Dolar are facing murder charges for the killing of de los Reyes in Hinigaran early this month.
They tested positive for gunpowder nitrates, police records show. Their arrest also yielded four .45 caliber pistols, a 9mm Glock 17 machine pistol, four grenades and hundreds of ammunition.
The five suspects, on board a rented van, were caught in a traffic snarl at the highway of Brgy. Camandag, La Castellana, that led to their arrest by the combined police force of Hinigaran, Pontevedra and La Castellana, police investigations showed.
Alba said Medalya ng Kagalingan were also conferred on 120 personnel of the 6th Regional Public Safety Battalion, headed by Senior Supt. Iver Apellido, for meritorious services rendered to Police Regional Office 9 in response to the hostilities of the rogue Moro National Liberation Front–Nur Misuari faction.
He said the 6th RPSB troopers served as the blocking force in possible exit points of the MNLF men, and as members of the security team at San Ramon Prison and Penal Farm, who provided security to arrested MNLF members from Sept. 9 to Dec. 28 last year.
Chief Supt. Josephus Angan, PRO-6 director, said in a statement, “this commendation is a boost to the morale of our men, who risk their lives in the performance of their duty, and they deserve it”.*GPB back
