Nine teams confirm entries
in BCAN 40, 50Up tourney

The 1st BCAN-organized 40UP and 50Up basketball tournament will open on February 15 at the West Negros University Gym with nine teams from five basketball clubs seeing action in the two categories, a press release from the Bascketball Coaches Association of Negros said.

Representatives of Negros Professional Athletic Club, Homesite Basketball Organization, United Negros Athletic Club, 40 Plus and Basketball Unified Sports Group met recently with the BCAN president on tournament, the press release said.

Also expected field a team in the two-division basketball competition is the Iloilo Pros of Toto Espinosa of Iloilo City, the press release said.

NEPROAC president Bobby Chong, Buddy Ferrer of HBO, Tony Belonio, Ronnie Abangan of 40 Plus Club of retired Judge Anastacio Rufon, Nene Sibaya representing UNAC, Cuison for Iloilo Pros, and BUS Group secretary Henry Doble discussed and agreed on the rules and format of the tournament during the meeting.

Tee said that he is still awaiting the reply of Bobby Regalado of Alijis Basketball Club and Hinigaran Amateur Basketball Association if they are joining the tournament.

System for both age categories is a single round-robin elimination, a quarterfinal for the top six teams, semifinal and final, the press release said.

Entry fee is at P8,000, the press release said.

The organizers said they will hold another meeting on January 29 at Apollo Restaurant Shopping.

As agreed, only 15 players can play for each team per game regardless of the number of players in the official lineup, the press release said.

A 50Up participant must have been bornon or before January 31, 1964 while the 40Up's cut off date is January 31, 1974, it added.*
