Cops file murder charges
against 1 for Indian’s slay

BY SHIELA GELERA

One of the four suspects in the killing of an Indian national and a Philippine Army reservist in Brgy. Mandalagan, Bacolod City, last week, was charged before the Bacolod City Prosecutor’s Office Wednesday, Senior Supt. Edgardo Ordaniel, acting city police director said yesterday.

The suspect, identified as Cris Balbuena, 31, of Brgy. Balintawak, Escalante City in Negros Occidental, was charged for double murder.

Of the four suspects, only Balbuena and his driver, alias “Dodoy” were identified by the police, STAR sources said.

The other two suspects, believed to have served as back-up of Balbuena and “Dodoy”, were still being identified through witnesses and evidences.

Ordaniel said four witnesses have surfaced and told the police that Alden Teves, 30, and Kulwinder Singh, 31, had received several threats before the day they were shot.

While the police were tracing the car transaction of the victims in Escalante, that is one of the motives they are trying to establish, they found out that Balbuena was the man Teves had shot with a .45 caliber pistol for attempting to maul Singh over a misunderstanding, last year, Ordaniel said.

He said Balbuena, who was hit in the foot, took revenge on Singh and Teves, while they were collecting debts in Purok Active, Brgy. Mandalagan.

Ordaniel said Balbuena was the gunman and “Dodoy” was the driver of the motorcycle they used to follow the victims and shoot them.

Balbuena was identified by witnesses through his facial features such as his pouty lips and the space between his two upper-front teeth, he said.

The police said the suspects really planned to gun down Singh and Teves.

Ordaniel said that, although they have not apprehended the suspects, they now consider the case closed since one of them had been identified.*SGG
