The Cadiz City government has scaled down the cost of the Dinagsa Festival 2014 that kicked off yesterday, after the devastation caused by super typhoon Yolanda in the city in November last year, Mayor Patrick Escalante said yesterday.
Escalante said that, if in the previous years, they spent about P7 million for the festival, they have cut the budget by half this year since their city is still recovering from the effects from the storm.
Instead of holding the festival for a week, they decided to hold it for four days only, he said.
Escalante added that the highlights of the festival, which is the street dance competition, will be on Saturday with nine tribes competing from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday.
The competing tribes are Bulawanon Tribe, Tribu Majeca, Bubocad Tribe, Tribu Tibanda, Tribu Yabyab Doongol, Tribu Tres Amigos, Hitalon Tribe, Tribu Talabaan and tribu Manarra.
A concelebrated mass at Sto. Nino Parish Church, Sayaw Pagdayaw, Procession in the main street, fluvial parade and Holy Mass are, meanwhile will be held on Sunday.
Activities today are an alumni homecoming at the Dr. Vicente F. Gustilo Memorial National High School and Holy Infant Academy, fun rides, a paralympiada, Frisbee Invitational Tournament at PNU, football at DR.VFGMNHS, Basketball at DBBCC, a Smart sponsored program, Visita Zona and Street Party at 9 p.m. featuring three live bands Musikbox, Aire and Undertow.
The Dinagsa festival is celebrated every year on the fourth Sunday of January in honor of the Sto. Nino.*APN back
