Puregold expands
into more areas

Philippine grocery chain Puregold Price Club Inc. is expanding aggressively into regions with large unexploited potentials, as it aims to sustain double-digit growth this year despite intensifying competition.

Antonio delos Santos, Puregold's vice president for Operations, said the company is spending P1.5 billion to P5 billion this year to put up 25 branches in the country.

Delos Santos said the planned 25 new stores do not include acquisitions. The number will bring the retail chain’s total number of stores to 230 by end-2014.

“We would like to focus more on Visayas and Mindanao although there are still opportunities we see in north Luzon and some areas in south Luzon,” he said in an interview.

Puregold has a branch in Brgy. Banago Bacolod City.

Delos Santos said Puregold stores are now only present in about 60 out of more than 400 cities and municipalities in the Philippines.

The company grew its profit by whopping 46.5 percent from P1.8 billion to P2.6 billion in the first three quarters of 2013, on the back of its continuous strategic expansion, including major acquisitions.

Its parent company last year fully acquired the outstanding capital stock of Company E Corp. which is similarly engaged in the business of trading goods such as supermarket products on retail and wholesale basis.

PPCI is one of the largest supermarket operators in the Philippines operating under different retail formats and store brands such as Puregold Price Club and S&R Membership Shopping.*PNA
