A committee hearing for an ordinance that is aimed to establish a skills training and livelihood program in every barangay of Bacolod City, was held by its author Councilor Wilson Gamboa, Jr., a press release from his office said.

The ordinance directs the barangay councils to allocate a specific area in their respective barangay halls or in any designated area within their jurisdiction with the City Cooperative and Livelihood Development Office of Bacolod as the office mandated to implement livelihood and economic activities, the press release said.

A coordinator will be tasked to identify major skills, resources and industries existing in the Barangay and coordinate with the CCLDO.

This Skills Training and Livelihood Program is a scheme to promote community participation and empowerment, aiming to minimize the impact of poverty among Bacolod’s poor and utilizes the cooperativism approach, the press release added.*
