Teacher held up

A teacher waiting for a bus, with three of her family members, was held up at knifepoint, in front of the old airport, at Araneta Street in Bacolod City, at about 4:45 a.m. yesterday, Senior Insp. Ser Ulrick Christian Gelera, Station 8 chief, said.

Conie Marie Madroño, 23, of Hinigaran town in Negros Occidental, her mother, Virgieluz Madroño, and Elizabeth and John Nicole, both surnamed Diaz, had come from St. Peter Funeral Homes in Brgy. Alijis, Bacolod, and were about to take a bus for Hinigaran, when an unidentified man approached them.

The man pointed a bladed weapon Conie Marie and grabbed her shoulder bag, that contained a Lenovo laptop worth P33,000, a Cherry Mobile cellular phone valued at P7,000, P300 in cash, and several identification cards.

Madroño, who tried to fight back, was stabbed in her left arm, Gelera said.

At the police station, Madroño positively identified the suspect, through the Rogues’ Gallery, as Ronald Hilaga, about 30 years old, of Calong-Calong, Brgy. Singcang-Airport, also in the city, Gelera said.

He said Hilaga was arrested at his house a few hours later, and the cellular phone of Madroño was recovered from him.

The police is conducting follow-up operations to locate the belongings of Madroño.

Gelera said they will file robbery-hold-up charge against Hilaga today, at the Bacolod City Prosecutor’s Office.*SGG
