B-well steam
sterilizes recalled

Medala, an international manufacturer of advanced breast pumps and medical vacuum technology had recalled its B-well steam sterilizes from the market effective immediately, Department of Trade and Industry Negros Occidental Provincial Director Rebecca Rascon, said yesterday.

Rascon said the company started to place the product along with replacement parts on the market in the market in November 2010.

However, it discovered that moisture may enter the electronics or the power cable connection between the cable and the device which may result to short circuit and leakage current, Rascon said.

At the moment, it cannot be excluded that individual products affected by this issue may pose potential risk of fire, burning or electric shock however the potential risk with respect to severe injury cannot be excluded, Rascon added.

She said the risk is further reduced by the protection fuse inside the product as well as by the residual current operated circuit breaker and other in house electric circuit breakers.

The products that were pulled out from the market are batch numbers 008.0100, 008.0101, 008.0102, 008.0103, 008.0104, 008.0121 and 008.0287.

Customers had purchased these items are asked to refrain from using them and unplug them from the power supply.
