A man was arrested with 19 pieces of suspected fake P1,000 bills near the seaport in Sibulan town, Negros Oriental yesterday.
Sibulan police chief, Insp. Desiree Saguilabon, said that they arrested Bell Caballero Fuentes, 40, of Barangay Panadtaran in Argao, Cebu province, on the complaints of Paul John Villaflores, employee of Mister Doughnut.
Villaflores said Fuentes gave him P1,000 to pay for the one box of doughnuts worth P180, and discovered that the money was fake after giving the suspect his change of 820, the police said.
Fuentes said fake P1,000 bills normally find their way in cockpits in Negros Oriental and even in Bacolod.
He said he was introduced to someone, whose name was not disclosed and whom he met twice at the Garloc cockpit in Cebu City, who led him to a place in Carbon, Cebu, where a P1,000 counterfeit bill is sold for P400.
Fuentes admitted he planned to circulate the fake bills in Tanjay City, the police said.
Charges for violation of Section 168 of the Revised Penal Code are readied for filing against the suspect, the police added.*JG
