A suspected drug personality was shot dead in Barangay Candauay, Dumaguete City, while two other suspected drug pushers were arrested in Amlan, all in Negros Oriental, Tuesday.

Carl Bryan Catan of San Jose Extension in Dumaguete City was shot by still unidentified suspects at around 3:45 p.m. in Candauay. He was rushed to the Negros Oriental Provincial Hospital but was declared dead on arrival by attending physicians, the police said.

A small weighing scale, several plastic sachets, a tooter and other alleged shabu paraphernalia were recovered by the police at the crime scene.

Initial investigation showed that Catan was an Information Technology student of Foundation University, and is the third person to be killed in Dumaguete this year in relation to the drugs problem, the police said.

The victim’s father, Val Catan, said in an interview that he could not comment on the alleged involvement of his son in the illegal drugs trade. He said Carl Bryan was a good child and used to work in a call center before returning to school.

Meanwhile, two suspected drug pushers were arrested in a buy-bust operation of joint operatives of the Provincial Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Group, the National Bureau of Investigation, and the Amlan police, at around 11:35 a.m. at the national highway of the town.

Police said Jomar Seit Tubil and Richard Cadavis, both of Bio-os, Amlan, were nabbed after they sold suspected shabu to an undercover agent.

Two transparent plastic sachets of suspected shabu and the P500 marked bill were seized from the suspects, who are now detained at the police station, and facing charges for violation of Republic Act 9165, or the Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.*JFP
