The Bureau of Internal Revenue has started on a massive information and education campaign, and is adopting measures to achieve the target revenues of district offices in 2014.

Carolina Carcullas, chief of the BIR Revenue District Office 79 based in Dumaguete City, said yesterday that this because of the failure of some district offices to meet tax collection goals last year.

She said the RDO-79, that covers the provinces of Negros Oriental and Siquijor, also likely failed its target but the final evaluation of the BIR Central Office is not finished yet.

A conference is set on February 13 in Bacolod City to discuss a work plan on how district offices can achieve their individual tax revenues. RDO-79 is under the BIR Region 12 Office, based in Bacolod, Carcullas said.

The local BIR is also gearing up for the simultaneous awareness campaign kick- off on March 11 of the tax filing season, and taxpayers are urged to file their income tax returns on time and not wait for the deadline on April 15, she said.

The district office will conduct IECs in every city and town of Negros Oriental and Siquijor. Carcullas said she is hopeful that the massive IECs will help the RDO-79 reach its target this year, that is expected to be around P2 billion.

Last year, the target was P1.9 billion, but as of December, the total collection was only about P1.8 billion, she added.*JFP
