held in Silay
The Silay City Liga ng mga Barangay said 91 donors participated in the bloodletting activity held at the Silay public plaza covered court, recently, a press release from the city said.
The theme of the activity held by the Liga, the City Health Office and the Philippine National Red Cross, was “Dugo Kong Alay, Pansagip Buhay (Blood Donation to Save Lives)”, the press release also said.
Present were Berly Astronomo, Carmen Popilo, Dr. Anabelle Ortiz and the CHO staff, ABC president Jose Lopez Jr. and barangay kagawads. The next bloodletting activity will be on February 23, the press release added.*

Support sought for proposed
Bacolod drug rehab center
Bacolod Sangguniang Panlungsod member Carl Lopez sought the support of Secretary Mar Roxas of the Department of Interior and Local Government on the proposed establishment of a drug rehabilitation center in the city, a press release from Lopez’s office said.
Lopez said that, under the Implementing Rules and Regulations of Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, local government units should appropriate a budget to assist in or enhance the enforcement of the Act, giving priority to preventive or educational programs and the rehabilitation or treatment of drug dependents, the press release said.
The press release also said that he told Roxas of the plan to appoint a resident ombudsman for Bacolod, after the Ombudsman for the Visayas asked Mayor Monico Puentevella to initiate the involvement of the SP in the selection process.
Roxas vowed to support the fight against criminality in the grassroots, and provide additional equipment and intelligence coordination with the different agencies, the press release added.*
