‘Guv’s trip no cost
to government’

BY CARLA GOMEZ

Negros Occidental Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. is on vacation leave but doing official business, Provincial Administrator Enrique Pinongan said yesterday.

The governor was invited by officials of Ibaraki Prefecture in Japan to the inauguration of the start of international flights from their airport, Pinongan said.

The Japanese officials are proposing to open direct flights from their airport to the Bacolod Silay Airport.

Pinongan said the governor used his personal funds for his trip, it was at no expense to the provincial government.

The governor had designated Board Member Salvador Escalante acting governor from Wednesday until today. Vice Governor Eugenio Lacson is in Hong Kong.

On Wednesday, Escalante said the governor is looking at opening trade and tourism ties between Ibaraki and Negros Occidental.

While Marañon is gone, repairs are underway at the Governor’s Office at the Capitol.

Cracked tiles are being replaced and the leaking ceiling is under repair, Pinongan said.

The renovation is estimated to cost P240,000, he added.

Meanwhile, Pinongan said the opening of the Negros First CyberCentre in Bacolod City will be delayed to late July or early August.

This is because the generator set for the facility has not arrived yet, he said.*CPG
