Police gathering evidences
in murder of ex-councilor

Police probers are still gathering more evidences against the suspects, believed to be gun-for-hire men, responsible for the fatal shooting of former councilor Edmund Turk Vail in Ilog, Negros Occidental, Inspector Renante Salgado, town police chief, yesterday said.

Salgado admitted that their investigations is being hampered by lack of witnesses, but said they are pursuing some leads.

Vail, an official of the water district in Dancalan, Ilog, and the owner of a private school in the town, succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds inflicted by a gunman, with a .45 caliber pistol, investigations of the Ilog police showed.

Senior Supt. Milko Lirazan, acting provincial police director of Negros Occidental, expressed confidence in the capability of the Ilog police to solve the killing of Vail. He also said that it may be job-related.

Salgado, however, refused to give details of their investigations.

Six empty shells of a .45 caliber pistol were recovered at the crime scene, and the two suspects fled on board a motorcycle towards Candoni.

An autopsy conducted showed that Vail sustained eight gunshot wounds in the breast, left shoulder and right foot, Salgado said.*GPB
