Rio braces for
WCup final fan frenzy

Rio de Janeiro braced for up to 100,000 Argentine fans arriving by car, bus and motorhome for the World Cup final against Germany on Monday (3 a.m., Phil. time) at the iconic Maracana Stadium.

Argentina has sent the biggest contingent of fans to Brazil during the month-long tournament, flooding cities to follow their hero Lionel Messi's team even though many have not even had tickets to the games.

Tens of thousands who were in Sao Paulo for Thursday's semi-final triumph against the Netherlands hit the road the next day for the six-hour trek across the southeastern region ahead of the final.

The Bacolod City High School Batch '79 bowling team led by Larry Dela Cruz lead the top five teams vying for the title in the premier division in tomorrow's final round of the 5th Triangular Bowlfest for Unity 2014 at the Goldenfield Commercial Complex in Bacolod City.

After leading the team standings, BCHS '79 earned a twice-to-beat advantage against the challengers -- NOHS B'85, BCHS C'74, and BCNHS B'89.

Also in tomorrow's schedule is the battle of the top 10 bowlers for master bowler honors, both in the men and women's division that will start at 2 p.m., while the team competition begins at 4 p.m.

Pinoy pugs in last four
of Kazakhstan tourney

The semifinal round of the 4th Kazakhstan President's Cup got underway yesterday with two seasoned Filipino boxers carrying the torch for the PLDT-ABAP team.

Rey Saludar joined Charly Suarez Thursday in the round of four as he won a split decision over Jorge Luis Cordero Parlay of Cuba in a slugfest that saw the judges giving a very close 28-27, 28-27 & 27-28 tally sheet for the Philippine Army man.

The Cuban had impressed on the first day when he won over Thai star Chatchai Butdee in a unanimous decision but not before decking the Thai in the second round of the match with a cracking left-right combination.
