Taxi driver killed,
3 suspects nabbed

BY GILBERT BAYORAN

Three suspects in the killing of a taxi driver yesterday were arrested by the police in follow-up operations in EB Magalona, Negros Occidental.

Senior Supt. Milko Lirazan, Negros Occidental police director, identified the arrested suspects as Romeo Toting Jr., a farm laborer-resident of Hacienda Gaston in Manapla, Jose Salvador Maribuhok and Rommel Paabot, both residents of Hacienda Teresa, Brgy. Alicante, EB Magalona.

Lirazan said taxi driver Alejandro Jarina, 57, of Brgy. Vito, Sagay City, was declared dead on arrival at the Teresita Lopez Jalandoni Provincial Hospital in Silay City. He succumbed to two stab wounds in the chest.

Police investigations show that three suspects hired Jarina, who was driving a taxi, to deliver them to EB Magalona, about 2 a.m. yesterday.

Upon reaching Hacienda Clarita in Brgy. San Jose, EB Magalona, the suspects allegedly tried to rob Jarina, who managed to swerve his taxi into a canal in a sugarcane field and managed to get out from his taxi, and seek the help of hacienda residents.

However, he died later.

The three suspects escaped towards a sugarcane plantation.

Follow-up operations of the EB Magalona police led to the arrest Toting, Maribuhok and Paabot in Brgy. Alicante, EB. Magalona.

Recovered at the scene of the incident were slippers, a bull cap and a T-shirt owned by the suspects.* GPB
