Few city voters
acting on biometrics
BY ADRIAN NEMES III

Only 5.6 percent of the registered voters in Bacolod City who have incomplete biometrics, or none at all, have gone to the Commission on Elections to correct the matter, Bacolod COMELEC election officer Mavil Majarucon told the DAILY STAR yesterday.

Majarucon said there are 14,256 registered voters who have incomplete records or are without biometrics but, as of yesterday only about 800 of them had started processing their biometrics.

She said that under COMELEC rules voters without or with incomplete biometric data can not vote in the 2016 Presidential elections.

While the processing for the biometrics is until October next year, COMELEC is encouraging those without or who have incomplete biometrics to process them earlier as this may stop by the last quarter of this year in preparation for the Sangguniang Kabataan Election, Majarucon also said.

Meanwhile, COMELEC chairman Sixto Brillantes issued a resolution recently directing all election officers in the Philippines to designate accessible registration venues within their area of jurisdiction for persons with disabilities for the PWD week that will begin on July 20.

Brillantes also encouraged all barangay captains to provide transportation support for their PWD constituents going to the area where the registration will be held.

In Bacolod, Majarucon said, they already coordinated with the PWD organization in the city and they may hold the registration at SM City, where PWDs will have their activities on July 20.*APN
