monitored in Dumaguete

Local health  officials authorities are keeping a close watch on suspected cases of chikungunya, a mosquito-borne viral disease that exhibits some similar clinical symptoms as those  of dengue fever, in Dumaguete City.
           
Dr. Socrates Villamor, chief of the provincial team of the Department of Health in Negros Oriental, said  yesterday that  a few suspected  chikungunya cases were reported to his office by the Dumaguete City Health Office.
           
But the patients were not subjected to blood serum testing by the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine in Metro Manila due to late reporting. Ideally, a patient believed to have the viral disease should be subjected to testing within one week from the onset of symptoms, Villamor said...

Self-Reliance Center
launched

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, commonly called Mormons, launched yesterday the Dumaguete Stake Self-Reliance Center in a simple ceremony attended by church members and local officials.
           
Syril Repe of the City Hall, a church member, said that John John Gequinto, second councilor of the Dumaguete Stake, said in his opening remarks that the Center is committed to actively raise the quality of life for everyone, regardless of race or circumstance, to achieve their full potential.
           
Center chair Rogelio Montemayor said the facility provides career and self-employment workshops for members of the church and Dumageteños.

Citywide motorcade
Monday

The Dumaguete City government will join the nationwide observance of the National Disaster Consciousness Month, with a citywide motorcade 9 a.m. Monday at the city’s main thoroughfares.
           
Mayor Manuel Sagarbarria, will lead city and barangay officials,  students, and representatives from national and local agencies in  the activity.
           
City Disaster Risk Reduction Management head Jose Chu said the city government has a 24-hour standby or on-call emergency rescue team. He urged every sector to actively participate in disaster preparedness, and remain vigilant with the start of the rainy season..
