Politics is not the business of the military, Col. Jon Aying, Army 303rd Infantry Brigade commander, said yesterday.
         
Aying, who supervises more than 1,000 government troops in Negros Occidental, said “Whatever happens in politics, we have no business with it”.
         
“However, if somebody gets hurt, we may enter the picture,” Aying said, in response to rumors of an alleged plot against the administration of President Aquino, because of the Disbursement Acceleration Program, some provisions of which were declared by Supreme Court as “unconstitutional.”
         
Aying said he believes the DAP issue will soon be resolved by the concerned branches of government. “Whatever their decisions, we should leave it to them. Our role is different from them”, he added.

Earlier, newly-installed AFP chief Lt. Gen. Pio Gregorio Catapang had reminded soldiers to stay away from politics.
       
"The DAP has become a political issue. We should allow the democratic process to take its course, and let the judicial, the executive and legislative branches of government deal with this. We should not meddle (but) concentrate on our mission”, Catapang said.
         
Aying also said they will observe red alert status on  Monday, as President Aquino delivers his State Of the Nation Address, to counter any possible violence from lawless elements. * GPB
