RTWPB meet
set August 12

BY ADRIAN NEMES

The next meeting of the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board to discuss a petition for an P85 salary increase in Western Visayas is scheduled on August 12, Wennie Sancho, RTWPB labor representative, said yesterday.

Data will be gathered that day to determine if there are supervening conditions to warrant the wage increase, Sancho said.

The General Alliance of Workers Associations, the petitioner of the new wage hike, cited the increase of prices of fuel and basic commodities as supervening events that would warrant the increase.

The Bacolod Filipino Chinese Chamber of Commerce, and the Metro Bacolod Chamber of Commerce and Industry are opposed to the wage increase.

If the petition is approved, salaries of workers in the non-agricultural, industrial/commercial field will increase to P372 from the current P287; agricultural/plantation workers, P330 from P255; and for plantation workers, P317 from P245, Sancho said.*APN
