DOE heads Consumer
Welfare Month

MANILA – The Department of Energy will chair the Consumer Welfare Month, on the theme “Sapat na Impormasyon: Susi sa Wastong Paggamit ng Enerhiya (Proper information: Key to proper use of energy)” in October.

The CWM is an annual event that aims to improve the management, coordination and effectiveness of the Philippines’ consumer programs; with this year’s theme focusing on consumer education of the best energy choices.

“The DOE has been constantly pushing and updating the public on the efficient use of energy consuming devices, not just to lower their electricity bill, but also to instill a sustainable way of living,” DOE Undersecretary Loreta Ayson said.

Leading the CWM, the National Consumer Affairs Council members include the Department of Agriculture, Department of Education, Department of Trade and Industry, Nationwide Association of Consumers Inc., Consumer Rights for Safe Food, Coalition for Consumer Protection and Welfare Inc., National Federation of Women’s Clubs of the Philippines Inc., Philippine Bakers Industry Group, and the Philippine Retailers Association.

Moreover, the NCAC has ex-officio members, that include the DOE and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources.

The chairmanship of the Consumer Welfare Month was officially turned over from the DOH to the DOE on July 22.
Pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No. 1098, the law requires the CWM to take place in October.

The NCAC is created under Republic Act 7394, or the Consumer Act of the Philippines, enacted to improve the management, coordination and effectiveness of the nation’s consumer programs.*PNA
