Director Romulo Bernardes of the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board Region 6 is reminding operators of school service vehicles aged 15 years or more not to use them anymore.

Bernardes said yesterday that LTFRB Chairman Winston Ginez has issued a directive against the use of vehicles aged 15 years or more, for service in schools as they pose dangers.

The Memorandum Circular 2013-006 of the LTFRB dated October 2013, imposes a mandatory age limit of 15 years on school transport services, which means units shall not be confirmed if their age is more than 15 years, even if the Certificate of Public Convenience is still valid.

However, while the LTFRB gave operators enough time to replace their phased-out units, the 15-year age limit will be strictly implemented starting next year.

So far, Bernardes, said they have no records of school service units that are more than 15 years old in the Western Visayas.

Meanwhile, 140 traffic police and traffic aides will be fielded in the main thoroughfares of Bacolod City for the opening of classes today, Traffic Management Unit head, Insp. Roger Ong, said yesterday.

Ong said they will be fielded in front of the schools and on the streets leading to them.

He is encouraging parents to bring their children to school early to avoid traffic congestion.

Motorists should have patience because it is anticipated that there will be traffic congestion in the streets today, Ong added..*APN
