Marañon hopes politics
won’t stall island region
BY CARLA GOMEZ
Negros Occidental Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. yesterday said he hopes politics does not set back the plan to create a Negros Island region.
“This is an apolitical move, it is beyond politics. This is for the good of future generations, and the future of the island. This is for progress,” he said.
On the report that Negros Oriental Gov. Roel Degamo said he is not totally convinced of the need to create a one-island region for Negros, and that he will be unable to attend a summit on the matter in Kabankalan City tomorrow, Marañon said Degamo had told him otherwise.
