Only 8.4 percent of the total job seekers who joined the Kalayaan jobs fair at the Robinson’s Place Bacolod yesterday and in San Carlos City, Negros Occidental were hired on the spot.
Provincial Director Ma. Victoria Mondragon of the Department of Labor and Employment Negros Occidental said only 211 out of 2,502 job applicants were hired.
Mondragon said 1,829 of the applicants were qualified and have final interviews and examinations set by the firms that joined the fair.
She said 12 overseas firms and 36 local companies joined the event in Bacolod City but there are no records available yet on how many business establishments joined the fair in San Carlos City.
DOLE Region 6 records showed that sales personnel for wholesale and retail stores, financial estimators for insurance firms, customer and technical service representatives for call centers, topped the list of the local jobs offered.
It added that employers from Middle East countries and Northern America, are looking for construction workers, household helpers, restaurant service crew members, and medical health workers, among others.*APN
