Independence Day float contest
Acting mayor Greg Gasataya and members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod led the thousands who joined the 116th Independence Day parade yesterday in Bacolod City, that featured colorful floats of barangays that participated in the first float-making contest.
The float of Barangay Handumanan, made of indigenous materials and featuring Filipino costumes, won first place and a cash prize of P30,000.
The floats of barangays Tangub won second with P20,000 and Villamonte was third with P10,000.
Contingents from the 303rd Infantry Brigade of the Philippine Army, the Bacolod City Police Office, Bureau of Fire Protection, government agencies, city employees, rescue teams, barangays, Department of Education officials, school bands, and the business community, among others joined the parade.*CGS

‘Banaag’ exhibition Sunday
The art exhibit “Banaag: A sharing of hope through arts and music” will open Sunday at the Kau Kau Resto Grill in Burgos Street, Bacolod City, a press release from organizers said.
To be showcased are the works of Dihon, or Dibuhistang nag Hili-ugyon sa Negros, along with local musicians, like Taglugar Band and Grupong Ispading, the press release also said.
The artists are Rafael Burdeos, Nunelucio Alvarado, Jolen Resuma, Larry Guillema, Jude Jakosalem, Revo Yanson, Stephen Basoy, Rodel Rojo, Bro. Tagoy Jakosalem, Glen Mecha, Reyman Jude Rubin, Samboy Alabado, Dexter Junsay Jam Bayoneta, and Sumie Akiyama from Japan.

Screening of dance contestants
in Mudpack Festival tomorrow
The screening of contestants for the group tribal dance and solo dance competitions in the 18th Mambukal Mudpack Festival of Murcia will be held 1:30 p.m. tomorrow at the Social Hall of the Capitol building in Bacolod City, a press release from the Capitol said.
The general orientation and drawing of lots for all the festival competitions will follow at 3 p.m., while the deadline for submission of entries for the Mambukal Sceneries photo contest is 5 p.m. June 16, at the Mambukal Reservation Office, also at the Capitol, the press release added.
The festival theme is “Saving, Healing and Celebrating Mother Earth.” It will open with the “Hataw sa Mambukal”, 7 a.m. on June 21, at the Ishiwata bathhouse grounds. Opening of exhibit, judging of photo contest, start of poster-making for kids and the mixed media art competitions, will be at 8 a.m. at the Mambukal Convention Hall, and the mass at 9 a.m.
The opening ceremonies will be at the Ishiwata grounds, 2 p.m. with Mudpack Festival founders Louie Dormido and Rudy Reveche officiating. Resort manager Ellen Jalandoni-Vasquez will deliver the welcome message and award the winners in the poster-making for kids’ competition. Other activities are drumbeating and group tribal dance competitions, awarding of prizes, and concert and dance party, the press release also said.
On June 22, there will be a “Bike and Run”, 5 a.m., from Lopue’s East for the bikers and at the Coca-Cola plant in Mansilingan for the runners; GMA Barangayan, 10 a.m., at the Ishiwata bathhouse grounds; viewing and judging of the installation and performance art competition; solo dance and clay body painting competitions, 2 p.m.; and awarding of prizes and opening ceremony for the Provincial Environment Week, the press release added.*
