The San Carlos Diocese called on the Department of Environment and Natural Resources and other government monitoring bodies to strictly monitor the proposed barging out of waste water by the San Carlos Bio- Energy Industry, Bishop Gerardo Alminaza, bishop of the San Carlos Diocese said, a press release from the diocese said.
"We are not opposing the barging out of waste water as long as it strictly complies with international protocols," Alminaza said.
"It is morally permissible," the bishop said, adding that "the problem is the issue of monitoring", the press release said.
Alminaza said their concern is the DENR and other government agencies tasked to monitor the move to strictly do enforce the required conditions, to really do their part.
Alminaza attended the Wednesday meeting of the San Carlos Sanggunian Panlalawigan where the issue of the barging out of SCBI's waste water which already had the approval of the DENR regional office but Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. had opposed it, the press release said.
Alminaza also called on the public to get involved especially the barangays where it is located to ensure that there is no danger of spilling and to report immediately if there is a problem, the press release said.
He also said "We have already a volunteer as part of the Multi- Sectoral Monitoring Team tasked to monitor the dumping and the regulations are fully complied with," the press release added.*
