Apply for FIT, developers urged

The Department of Energy is encouraging Renewable Energy developers to continue submitting applications for the Feed-in-Tariff eligibility to accelerate the exploration, development and optimal use of the country’s RE sources.

Renewable Energy Developers whom are encouraged to apply for the FIT System are those who have a RE Service/Operating Contracts.

Moreover, a required commercial feasibility of the projects and its work plan are also to be passed to the DOE which will serve as the basis of the company being given the Compliant Declaration of Commerciality.

If the feasibility study and work plan is approved, the power producer is given a Confirmation of Commerciality that would enable them to proceed to the construction phase.

While the construction is ongoing, the Department will readily check and evaluate the site based on the approved work plan.

And if the DOE sees the similarity between the first submitted plan and the area, it would award the well deserved COE for FIT eligibility.

The FIT allows RE power producers to directly charge its consumers in an arranged time span, in accordance with the RE Law of 2008.

The statement comes after the DOE gave a Certificate of Endorsement for a FIT eligibility, early this month, to the San Carlos Solar Project which would be generate a capacity of 22 Megawatts.

The department gave the recommendation early this month to approve the project which will charge at a rate of P9.68 kilowatts per hour.

Through the development, San Carlos will soon have the go signal to harness energy for the whole island and be self-sufficient.

The solar panel farm has a total land of 35 hectares, covered by blue photovoltaic panels, which converts the energy to electricity.

Technical Education and Skills Development Authority Secretary Joel Villanueva is also supporting RE projects, as he is planning to create a green initiative center which would focus on creating solar energy equipment.

Other FIT initiatives in the country that are being utilized such as hydro, biomass, wind and ocean.*PNA
