Chief Superintendent Prudencio “Tom” Bañas assumed Wednesday the command of Police Regional Office 7 in Cebu City.
With his new assignment, Banas, who is a Bacoleño, now supervises the anti-criminality operations and other law enforcement-related activities in Negros Oriental, Cebu, Bohol and Siquijor island.
Bañas, who had previously been assigned in Negros Occidental in various positions, replaces Chief Supt. Danilo Constantino, who has been designated chief of the Directorate for Police Community Relations.
His order as PRO-7 chief took effect June 9, but he reported to his new assignment Wednesday after receiving the order from PNP chief Allan Purisima.
Bañas said yesterday that he was replaced by Chief Supt. Antonio Viernes as chief of the PNP Human Rights Office.
Bañas is a member of Philippine Military Academy Class 1983. Other PMA Class 83 members, who have also been assigned in Negros, are Chief Supt. Manuel Felix, now the deputy chief of the Police Community Relations Group, Chief Supt. Ronilo Quebrar and Senior Supt. Allan Guisihan, who retired recently from the police service.
Felix and Guisihan served as provincial police directors of Negros Occidental, and Quebrar as Bacolod City police director.*GPB
