Priests, pastors hold
friendly table tennis

Priests and pastors in Bacolod competed in a friendly table tennis competition organized by Leonito Lopue of Lopue’s Table Tennis Association at the LOPTTA Center, June 12 in Bacolod City.

The team of pastors Jude Pimentel, Dino Sagadal and Rayman Villanueva with table tennis expert George Jimenez, beat the group of Frs. Nick Melicor, Jesmar Manato, Raymon Asoy, and Dr. Carlitos Orola, 8-6, to win the first phase of the competition.

Lopue said the tournament, called “Friendship and Unity Games” employed the race to 8 format with the members from both teams playing in singles and double matches.

The tournament last Thursday, Lopue said, is the first of the two-game series between the pastors and the priests. The second phase, he said, will be held next month.

Lopue, who expressed hopes of seeing more priests and pastors joining the tournament next month, said the competition saw both teams giving their best and their supporters, who trooped to the LOPTTA Center to watch the match-ups, cheering them on.

LOPTTA, in line with its commitment to develop table tennis talent in Negros Occidental, recently sponsored a free Summer Table Tennis clinic. The center has also produced top caliber athletes, among them, young champions Emy Rose Dael and John Paul Gubaton.*NAB
